Common NCs Found in Transition Audits (August 2017 Update)

ASR is continuing its practice of sharing the most common non-conformances found in recent ASR client transition audits. We highlighted “transition audit” NCs in our July newsletter and found the information received thousands of hits and decided to continue providing updated transition information. Our hope is clients can apply these NC’s as a learning tool to improve their organization’s QMS.

IATF 16949:

Internal auditors not adequately trained/competent

Calibration process not effectively implemented

Manufacturing process not effectively implemented (no job setup check)

  • Inspection not completed prior to product release
  • Change control not effective
  • Manufacturing lab not complying with internal instructions

Core Tools - PPAP not effectively implemented, Control Plans incomplete, MSA not working in an effective manner

ISO 14001:

Context of Organization does not include suppliers and regulatory agencies

Compliance issues not addressed

Aspect list not completed

Emergency response not effectively implemented (drills not conducted per EMS calendar)

ISO 9001:

Internal audits not effectively implemented (late corrective action)

Internal audit plan does not address requirements of ISO 9001:2015

Calibration not effectively implemented (past due calibration and not following internal procedure

Corrective action not effectively implemented (late follow-up and verification)


Quality policy not effectively communicated

Quality planning not effectively communicated to suppliers

Traceability of raw materials to finished product not effectively maintained


Internal communication process not effective

Customer satisfaction not effective in all cases

Non-conforming material not processed according to the organization’s procedures
