Behind the Scenes with ISO 14001

Posted in ISO 14001

ISO's Technical Committees TC 176 (ISO) and TC 207 (EMS) are in the process of determining how to deal with an ISO and EMS "Technical management board." This would mandate that all management system standards would have the same structure. This would set up a quality/environmental management system based on 10 clauses. ISO is now structured with 8 clauses, and EMS is developed based on 4 clauses.

Purpose behind the rewrite is to standardize all standards. The goal for release of these revisions is the end of 2014 but it may be 2015 before we see the actual documents.
Organizations can expect changes to both standards that add requirements including a segment on "risk management."

ISO 14001 – Foundation for Becoming Green

Posted in ISO 14001

going green helps bottom line

Green Living for Dummies states that becoming "green" means taking action now to stop using the Earth's resources faster than the Earth can replace them.

Organizations seeking to improve their environmental performance and promote a "green" image should look at ISO 14001 as a starting point.

First, let's define environment-friendly performance by an organization or being "green." A "green" company is an organization that has a plan, led by top management allocating resources to continually improve its environmental performance, measuring the improvement and publishing its improvements to assist other organizations in the community to do the same.
